Abstract

This paper is an examination of the effects of terrorism on human rights under international law. The paper notes that human rights are sacrosanct and have been provided for in several international instruments such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights1, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights2, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights3, the African Charter on Human and people’s Rights4, among several other international and regional instruments. The rights provided for in these instruments have been aptly reproduced in the national constitutions of various states across the globe and every state is obligated to respect them. In the main, the work examines terrorism, human rights in international law, impact of terrorism on human rights, impact of terrorism on the economy of states, enforcement of human rights and challenges to the enforcement of human rights in international law. The paper goes ahead to proffer solutions that would help curb terrorism and enhance the enjoyment of human rights. Consistent with legal research, the work employs the doctrinal research methodology.
