EXAMINATION OF POLICY FRAMEWORK FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY AND FURTHER PROPOSAL ON LEGAL AND INSTITUTIONAL FRAMEWORK FOR ITS SUSTAINABILITY
Abstract
This discourse explored the policy framework for renewable energy, focusing on creating a possible legal and institutional framework for its sustainability. It examined the key components of a renewable energy policy framework, including targets, incentives, regulations, and institutional arrangements. The discourse also discussed sustainability considerations, such as environmental impact assessments, social impact assessments, and economic viability. By analyzing best practices and lessons learned, this discourse aimed to provide insights and recommendations for policymakers, stakeholders, and practitioners seeking to promote renewable energy development and ensure its long-term sustainability. This study aimed to develop a policy framework for renewable energy, creating a possible legal and institutional framework for its sustainability. The study employed the qualitative approach, analyzing existing policies, laws, and institutional arrangements. The study identifies key components of a renewable energy policy framework, including targets, incentives, and regulations. It also highlighted the importance of a robust legal and institutional framework for ensuring sustainability.
The work discussed the legal framework for renewable energy in Nigeria: Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, Electricity Act, 2023 and Electricity (Amendment) Act, 2024, Environmental Impact Assessment and Institutional Frameworks: Nigeria Electricity Regulating Commission, etc. A well-designed policy framework is essential for promoting renewable energy development and ensuring its long-term sustainability. The study recommended establishing clear targets, providing incentives, and strengthening institutional capacity to support renewable energy development.
